- Anti-Static Packaging, Dissipative Bags and Static Shielding Bags — These terms do not describe the same protection level. An anti-static packaging bag is intended to reduce charge generation under specified conditions. A static-dissipative material is characterized by an agreed resistance range. A static shielding bag uses a multilayer construction designed to reduce electrostatic discharge energy reaching the contents. A metal-looking laminate is not sufficient evidence of shielding performance. The buyer should state the component sensitivity, required electrical properties, applicable test method and acceptance limits before material selection.
- Material and Construction Options — Anti-static PE-based structures may be considered for general components where charge generation control is the stated need. Dissipative laminated structures may support additional mechanical or printed-pack requirements. Metal-layer shielding structures may be evaluated when shielding performance is specified. Transparent, translucent and opaque constructions have different visibility, barrier and electrical implications. Final film grade, thickness, sealant, bag format and performance criteria must be confirmed for the application; a food-packaging laminate should not be assumed to provide ESD protection.
