Aluminum Foil Laminated Packaging Barrier Guide
Aluminum foil is a real metal barrier layer used inside selected flexible packaging laminates. It is not a complete structure name and is not automatically suitable for every high-barrier or retort project. Final suitability depends on the complete laminate and validation with the actual product and process.


How Aluminum Foil Works in a Laminate
Intact foil can provide strong light blocking and low gas or moisture transmission. The finished barrier can be weakened by foil gauge variation, pinholes, flex cracking, folds, lamination, seals and conversion damage. Required performance should be confirmed against the product, process and handling conditions.
Aluminum Foil Laminate vs PET/AL/PE
Aluminum foil laminated packaging is a broad material category. PET/AL/PE is one example laminate using PET outside, foil in the middle and PE inside; it is not the definition of foil packaging. See the PET/AL/PE structure guide for layer roles and applications.
Foil vs VMPET and Other Barrier Directions

Is aluminum foil laminated packaging one fixed structure?
No. Foil can be combined with different printable, mechanical and sealing layers. PET/AL/PE is one example, not the definition.

Is foil always better than VMPET?
