PET Film for Flexible Packaging
PET film is commonly evaluated as the printable outer layer of laminated pouches and roll film. It can support print definition, stiffness, dimensional stability and converting, but PET alone does not define the finished package barrier or seal performance. Buyers should confirm the film grade, thickness, treatment and complete laminate against the product and packing process.
What PET Film Contributes
PET can provide a stable printing surface, mechanical support and useful resistance during lamination and pouch converting. Transparent, matte, coated and chemically treated grades are not interchangeable. The selected grade should match ink, adhesive and downstream processing.
PET Is Usually Not the Heat-Sealing Layer
In structures such as PET/PE, PET/VMPET/PE and PET/AL/PE, PET commonly provides the printable outer layer while PE or another sealant forms the package seal. Confirm the layer order and sealing surface instead of approving a structure from the word PET alone.
Choose the Complete Laminate by Product Need
- PET/PE may be evaluated for selected products with moderate barrier requirements
- PET/VMPET/PE may be evaluated where metallic appearance and improved light or moisture protection are needed
- PET/AL/PE may be evaluated where a foil barrier direction is justified
- Other transparent or high-barrier laminates may suit projects with different visibility, toughness or processing needs
No structure should be treated as the only solution without reviewing the product, shelf life and validation requirements.
Printing, Lamination and Machine Checks
Confirm surface treatment, print side, ink and adhesive compatibility, bond development, total thickness, COF, web width, repeat, unwind direction and roll limits. Representative pouch or line trials should be used where the product, structure or packing equipment changes.
