Start with the Machine and Pack Geometry
Confirm whether the line is VFFS, HFFS, flow wrap, stick pack or sachet equipment, then record the machine model, forming set, seal type and product feeding method. Web width, print repeat, eye-mark position, cutting position, fin or lap seal and product clearance must describe the same finished pack. A roll that matches nominal width can still fail when repeat, unwind or seal geometry is wrong.
Avoid Universal COF, Treatment and Reel Assumptions
COF, surface treatment, core ID, maximum reel diameter, reel weight and winding direction are machine-specific inputs. Do not copy a generic numeric range or assume that print-out, a particular core or one storage period suits every line. Ask the machine maker or filling partner for the required method and range, identify which film surface is measured, and confirm whether values apply at production, delivery or use.
Select the Laminate from Product and Process Risks
BOPP/CPP, BOPP/PE, PET/PE, PET/VMPET/PE, PET/AL/PE and structures containing PA may be possible starting families. The suitable direction depends on moisture and oxygen sensitivity, light exposure, product edges, filling temperature, seal contamination, required stiffness and the intended shelf life. Material names alone do not establish barrier or line performance; compare the complete structure, thickness, test conditions and sealing layer, then validate it with the intended product.
Use a First Reel Trial and Defined Release Checks
A first reel trial should cover startup, stable target operation, planned stops and restart. Record tracking, eye-mark sensing, forming, seal appearance, cut position, pack length, product clearance, wrinkles, blocking, static behavior and recurring adjustments. Agree measurable limits for web width, repeat, unwind, reel build, splices and other critical items. Retain the approved reel specification and representative packs as the release reference.
Handover and Change Control Data
Provide product, target pack size, machine type and model, forming and sealing arrangement, web width, repeat, eye mark, unwind diagram, print side, core ID, maximum reel diameter and weight, splice rule, laminate and thickness, line speed range, seal conditions, artwork files and quantity by design. Change control should require review before altering film grade, thickness, sealant, artwork repeat, reel dimensions, winding direction, machine, forming set or operating window.
